The Koenigsegg CCX

2008-2010 Koenigsegg CCXR, Edition and Trevita

Typically, when someone mentions the word hybrid we think "Prius." When someone mentions the words "Ethanol Biofuel" We think Chevy flex fuel vehicles. I'll give you something different to think about the next time that you hear the EPA or Obama touting hybrids and biofuel, the first green supercar: The Koenigsegg CCXR.
The Koenigsegg CCXR is simply a hybrid engine version of the CCX that runs on biofuel. At the time of production it was Koenigsegg's top performing vehicle in terms of horsepower, 0-60 acceleration, top speed and even miles per gallon! Unlike other hybrid vehicles, the CCXR yields enhanced performance numbers over its unleaded siblings without changes in displacement or other compromises.
Production began on the CCXR in 2007, just one year after the introduction of the CCX. The only change on the CCXR is a slightly modified engine that can accept E85 or E100 ethanol fuel, along with regular unleaded gasoline. Koenigsegg made a few other minor tweaks such as modifying the fuel injectors, upgrading fuel lines, and most importantly, increasing the supercharger boost levels.
Although seemingly minor changes, the resulting improvements are staggering. The Rotex twin-supercharged 4.7 liter V8 pushes out 1,018 horsepower at 7,200 rpm and 740 lb-ft of torque at 6,100 rpm. That's Veyron Super Sport territory in HALF the cylinders and displacement. These are figures that only the Zenvo ST-1 has also been able to encroach upon in recent years with a similar platform. The additional power helps the Koenigsegg CCXR to go from 0-60 in 3.1 seconds and on to an estimated 250+ mph top speed. That biofuel overhaul makes the CCXR 0.1 second faster to 60 than the CCX and it has 212 more horsepower and 47 more ft-lb of torque.
You see, the higher cooling properties of ethanol allows for a higher pressure of combustion in the cylinders, which means higher output than regular fuel. Quite an interesting way to use a hybrid fuel to yield hypercar performance and the best part about it is that the CCXR gets better gas mileage than it's hypercar brothers and sisters.
Two variants of the CCXR were also produced in extremely limited quantities. In 2008, the CCXR Edition variant was announced, a limited production run of full "naked" carbon fiber body panels, aluminum wheels, larger front splitter and larger spoiler to optimize air flow. The only performance difference for the Edition is slightly improved torque figures and a faster 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds due to the lighter weight and improved downforce. Only six were made.
The second variant of the CCXR is the CCXR Trevita which literally stands for "three whites" in Swedish. The Trevita variant utilizes a carbon fiber technology that is woven together with diamonds and is a proprietary technology that is wholly developed and owned by Koenigsegg. Only three CCXR Trevita's were made, making it the rarest Koenigsegg to date at an approximate sales price of $4,850,000 USD. That also makes the CCXR Trevita the most expensive production car in the world. All three Trevitas will feature the Koenigsegg Shimmering Diamond Weave bodywork, double carbon rear wing, enhanced exhaust system, carbon ceramic brakes with ABS, and paddle-shift automatic transmission.
2010 marked the end of Koenigsegg's first generation model, the CC. Koenigsegg introduced their first prototype in the late 90s, followed by the CC8S, CCR and CCX models along with other tweaks throughout the past decade, in which they proved to the world that they exist and that they know how to make a car that Bugatti hides from. The real question is, how much more scary can it get? Their newest model, the Agera, will help us to answer that question.

HONDA CAR

Where Are Honda Cars Made?

You've seen them in magazine ads, on television commercials and on the road. Honda is one of the world's best known and respected automotive brands. The company behind the cars is Honda Motor Company, Ltd., a multinational corporation based in Minami-Aoyama Nichome, Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Honda designs, develops, manufactures and sells popular vehicles such as the Accord, the Civic, the CRV and many others. Honda cars are driven in many different parts of the world.
Not Everything is Done in Japan
Many people incorrectly assume that Japanese cars are manufactured in Japan. The truth is, the world is a much different place today than it was in the late '40's when Honda first started. Globalization has made it possible for multinational corporations to distribute their production facilities around the world for maximum efficiency. For example, even though the companies' world headquarters are in Japan, American Honda Motor Co. is based in Torrance, California. Honda has also created joint ventures around the world to facilitate operations in places such as China and India.
In terms of where the cars are actually made, the answer is - it depends. Honda has several assembly plants distributed around the world, each producing anywhere from only one to five different styles of automobiles. Depending on where in the world you live, and what type of vehicle you are wondering about, the actual geographical origin will vary. Below is a list of their manufacturing and assembly plants with details about what type of vehicles are made there. It is safe to assume that if you live closer to China than the U.S., the assembly plant closest to (or in) China that manufactures any given model is the one where that car came from.
Honda Manufacturing and Production Facilities
Japan
As of 2009, there were only two main manufacturing plants located in Japan.
The Honda Hamamatsu Factory in Hamamatsu, Japan manufactures cars, motorcycles and engines from the car manufacturers complete lineup.
There is another Japanese production facility located in Suzuka, Mie, Japan. Currently, this facility only produces one model - the Honda Fit.
China
The Dongfeng Honda Automobile Company, based in Wuhan, China opened in 2003. This assembly plant currently manufactures only the Honda CRV, but has plans to produce Honda Civics in the near future.
Indonesia
Honda Indonesia is the name of the factory located in Karawang, Indonesia. Currently, this manufacturing facility only produces the Honda Fit.
Thailand
In Thailand, Honda manufactures the Honda Fit in their factory located in Ayutthaya, Thailand.
Turkey
Honda has a factory in Turkey where it has manufactured cars of different styles since 1992.
New Zealand
Honda New Zealand manufactured cars from 1965 through 1998. The models that were produced in this facility include the Honda City, the Civic and the Accord.
Belgium
The production facility in Belgium makes only motorcycles.
England
In the UK, Honda has manufactured the Civic and the CRV in Swindon, England since 1992.
Brazil
Honda Amazonas Motorcycle is a Brazilian production facility that only manufactures motorcycles. The plant is located in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil and has made motorcycles since 1976.
Honda Brazil Automobile, a facility located in Indaiatuba, Sao Paolo, Brazil manufactures the Civic and the Fit.
United States
The Marysville Auto Plant in Marysville, Ohio makes Accords, Acuras and motorcycles.
The East Liberty Auto Plant, in East Liberty Ohio, manufactures the Civic, the CRV and the Honda Element.
Honda Manufacturing of Alabama is located in Lincoln, Alabama. The plant, which opened in 2001, manufactures vehicles such as the Honda Odyssey, the Honda Pilot and the Honda J Engine.
Formula Honda Toronto offers both new and used cars Toronto and in the GTA - with a huge variety of cars, trucks, SUV's and vans.

Gumpert Apollo Sport

The Gumpert Apollo is essentially a race car modified for the road. The Apollo is the end result of a combining of skills between Roland Gumpert - ex boss of Audi Sport, Roland Mayer - owner of MTM, and Audi.

Audi played somewhat of a back seat role in the Gumpert Apollo's production. Audi technology is available to the Apollo, however the car cannot directly rival existing Audi products, and Audi owns any subsequent patents from the Gumpert Apollo's development.

The Gumpert Apollo concept uses an Audi sourced 4.2 litre V8 (like the one used in the new
Audi R9 sports car) enhanced by twin turbochargers making a very respectable 650 horses, all this power runs through a six speed sequential transmission to the rear wheels, and the car is capable of reaching 60 mph in 3 seconds.
The Gumpert Apollo is a two seat mid-engined race car which makes few concessions to be road legal.

Overall the car has a purposeful look, Audi design influence creeps into the centre grille, other than this the concept is quite original, if somewhat rough. The front wheel arches hug the tires in a perfect circle before dissolving into the multiple vents down the sides. Noticeable race inspired design cues include the front lip air splitter and and roof mounted triangular air intake, no doubt necessary to feed the hungry monster lurking below.
Below is the Gumpert Apollo press release.
Once the son of the god of war Zeus, responsible for the victory and the template for masculine beauty, he is now the namesake of the breathtakingly uncompromising super sports car that combines aesthetics and function like no other.

The Gumpert Apollo is the perfect synthesis of a road vehicle and track car. It evokes passion and driving pleasure beyond all expectations. With 650 bhp, 224 mph top speed and acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in just 3 seconds, you would have to go a long way to find an alternative to Apollo. The complete package is available in a cost-benefit ratio that cannot be matched in this exclusive vehicle class. As a pure high-performance sports car with racing qualities that is also approved for use on the road, the Gumpert Apollo sets new standards.

Roland Gumpert, managing director and the driving force behind the company that builds the car, has created a manufacturing environment that combines engineering excellence with wideranging automotive and racing competence. Experts within the industry are all familliar with the name Gumpert. In the mid 1970s, the long-standing Audi manager was the driving force behind the development of the vehicle "Iltis", the original predecessor of today's "Quattro". In the years undere his management, Audi won a total of 25 World Rally Championship races and was the 4-time winner of the World Rally Championship.

An Exceptional Design
The silhouette of the Gumpert Apollo, which has been optimized upon numerous times after tests in the wind tunnel, reflects its above-average performance capability. In its profile, the Apollo's dynamic appearance is further enhanced by its dimensions and its streamlined, long and wide shoulder lines. The mid-engine layout is emphasized by the cockpit, which is clearly situated toward the front of the vehicle, and the long wheel base; both factors ensuring optimum driving qualities. Massive air inlets and outlets in the front, and on the side in front of and behind the doors, leave no doubt about its potency. They supply the two turbochargers and the high-performance braking system with enough fresh air to ensure that the car maintains optimum operation for the duration of the race.

Driving Dynamics Redefined
The Gumpert Apollo's suspension was developed to ideally complement the clever
aerodynamics of the car body, resulting in unusual driving dynamics. The Apollo is taut but not hard and offers the driver and passenger an extraordinary high level of comfort despite being purely designed for performance. It demands the complete attention of the pilot but does not overwhelm him thanks to its ultra-precise and predictable driving characteristics even at top speed. An ideal weight balance of 42 to 58 percent between the front and rear axis rounds it off.

Proven Performance in a New Dimension
The impressive power of the high-performance eight
cylinder engine is based on the proven V8 aggregates from Audi. This engine in standard configuration is optimized for use in racing and road vehicles and produces 650 bhp as a biturbo engine. With a weight of only 430 lbs, it plays a major role in ensuring the Apollo has an ideal weight and its fascinating driving dynamics.

Via the two exhaust gas turbochargers, the combustion chambers are force-fed fresh air that has previously been cooled to the ideal temperature in large intercoolers.

The sequential six-speed transmission, that incorporates Formula 1 know-how, guarantees the efficient implementation of the energy generated.

Purism and Luxury in the Interior
Low weight was the top priority and has been achieved by using high-tech materials. For instance both the
monocoque and the integrated instrument panel are made of carbon-fiber.

The seat position is individually set for every customer with padding, upholstery, adjustable pedals, and the steering column. The Gumpert Apollo is a made-to-measure sports car and in line with this principle, customers can design the interior to meet their preferences, be it pure performance or somewhat more luxurious.

The air conditioning system guarantees the perfect interior temperature while traveling. The high-end navigation system with DVD-player and sound system helps you get from A to B and delivers in-car-entertainment. The backward facing camera integral to the system helps the driver when reversing or, as Gumpert says, simply shows him how quickly the overtaken cars disappear from view.

Ford Focus 2011

The New Fuel Efficient Ford Focus

Ford has always stood for excellence and providing great value for drivers, and when it comes to efficiency none of its competitors can stand up to the 80 MPG which Ford promises from the Focus Econetic, along with 95g/km emissions. This means that your costs on the road are greatly less, as the car is exempt from the money draining London Congestion Charge and road tax. The Ford Focus Econetic was recently on show at the Amsterdam Motor Show and will roll out for sale at the start of 2012.
The new Focus 1.6 Duratorq TDCi which gives drivers an impressive 74.2 MPG, Ford have said that the new ECOnetic Focus is an enhanced incarnation of this diesel but engineered to get better fuel efficiency which is also supported by a new injection system and turbo charger. The new ford focus has some fantastic new features, including the highly acclaimed Ford Auto-Start-Stop; which switches off the engine when your car is stationary then re-starts the moment you are ready to go, this has been seen in a lot of recent models. It will also keep your in-car systems running such as your sound system and air-con. This is more suited to the inner city driver who Ford claim will save 10% alone on their fuel costs.
Econetic Savings
Other features include an intelligent power-assisted steering system (EPAS) that activates only when required thereby reducing its intake and improving fuel economy. Ford's Shift Indicator is a simple yet creative feature that tells you when it's more energy efficient for changing gear, and ultra-low rolling tyres pay compliment to these eco-credentials. What really stands out is the smart way that Ford have reduced emissions by a full 2%. An Active Grille Shutter system controls air intake electronically through opening and closing vents when air is needed or not for cooling. As the vents are closed more often than not the reduction in drag pushes Fords green reputation through the roof.
The Ford Faithful may be queuing up already registering interest with local dealers in the 3rd generation Ford Focus Econetic. However sceptics and cash-conscious drivers could be swayed if the car lives up to its energy efficiency and environmental claims. With increased fuel and insurance costs and the ever growing influence of the green movement, the race is still on for an all-round cost-effective hatchback and estate. For now though, the Ford Focus Econetic is crossing the finish line in pole position.
A lot of drivers complain about inner city driving being very costly but you can still be fuel efficient driving in urban areas, for example if you are driving your Ford Focus in Manchester then it is a great idea to try to combine small trips into one journey to avoid making these costly short trips all the time... just a quick tip to keep your costs down!
The Car People, http://the-car-car.blogspot.com/, can help give you tips on keeping your fuel costs down and helping you drive more efficiently. Find used cars at there dealership in Manchester, Wakefield and Sheffield.
